Izzy & Richard, Strangford Lough Wedding.
We all love a good narrative curve…
…but weddings are the best for it. They usually kick off with a few nerves, then the excitement, joy, and emotion build right through the day until it all ends with some questionable shapes on the dance floor. But Izzy and Richard’s day? Well, that started at 5.30am with complete disaster.
Let me rewind. When they first contacted me about photographing their wedding, they told me a bit about their plans. The marquee was going up on the shore of Strangford Lough, on land that’s been in Izzy’s family for 400 years. How amazing is that? Izzy and Richard live in Canada, and I always find it such a massive compliment when couples put so much effort into their day and then trust me to capture it all for them.
So, where does the disaster come in, I hear you ask? Well, MjM Marquees had set up their gorgeous marquee a few days before. But, as everyone here knows, the weather has a mind of its own – and it decided to obliterate the marquee the night before the wedding. Fast forward to 7am, and I’m on the phone to Richard, who tells me the marquee is… in Strangford Lough. Literally.
Thankfully, MjM Marquees came to the rescue. By the time I arrived at 9.30am, the final touches were going in, the sun was making an appearance, and it was all systems go. Hooray!
At this stage in the blog, I usually let the photos do the talking, but a couple of special mentions are needed. Firstly, Izzy’s mum deserves a serious shout-out – she did all the flowers herself, and honestly, it was like wandering through a meadow all day long. Monty Don’s got nothing on that performance!
Secondly, a huge mention has to go to Adrian, Izzy’s uncle, who was my second shooter and companion for the day. Quite a few of his photos are included in this blog. Thank you so much, Adrian – you’re a brilliant photographer and a true gent.
I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story – stunning views, brilliant people, an incredible little church, hilarious speeches, epic walks along the coast for photos, and finally an absolute belter of a disco. What. A. Day.
Thank you to Izzy and Richard for having me there to capture your amazing day!
